NY State Scholarship
A scholarship for New York residents who have studied at a New York State School

Part of Xavier University School of Medicine’s mission is to make medical education affordable.

New York State University Scholarship
Purpose
Recognizes NY residents who have attended public institutions and are committed to serving NY communities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Student must be a New York State resident.
- Student must have studied at a New York State public institution (SUNY, CUNY, or community college) OR be a New York State resident entering MD1 at Xavier University.
Required Application Materials
- Personal Essay (750–1,000 words)
Discuss why you chose NY public education and how it shaped your journey. Reflect on opportunities, challenges, and how you plan to give back to NY communities through medicine. - Official Transcript
Submit your most recent academic transcript(s), including undergraduate or pre-medical coursework. - Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Include educational background, leadership roles, healthcare experience, service work, and other relevant activities. - Two Letters of Recommendation
Letters should be from academic, professional, or community references who can speak to your character, work ethic, and readiness for medical school.
- Optional Supplemental Materials
You may include up to two additional documents, such as awards, service records, creative work, published projects, or documentation of community impact.

Academic Success

Residential Campus
A brand new all-inclusive residential campus was opened in Fall 2021.

New Academic Campus
A brand new state of the art academic campus is set to open during Fall 2024.

To maintain the NY State scholarship:
- Student must have continuous enrollment. There should be no interruptions or discontinuation in studies.
- Student must reside at Xavier’s residential campus during basic science semesters.
- Student must not receive any disciplinary actions while a student of Xavier.
- Student must maintain satisfactory academic progression at the discretion of Chief Academic Officer.
Scholarships may be rescinded if terms are not met, and the student will be responsible for full tuition. Awards are disbursed in the Student Management System as a credit toward your tuition. Scholarship offers are at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, and the committee reserves the right to approve or deny a student for any reason.
