About The MD-6 Program

The MD-6 program is designed to prepare students to pass their USMLE Step 1 exam.

Important Dates – January 2023 Semester

November 15, 2022 – Tuition Due
December 20, 2022 – Xavier MD-6 Orientation
January 3, 2023 – Kaplan Diagnostic Exam
January 4, 2023 – Kaplan Orientation
January 4, 2023 – Classes begin

* Please note that failure to pay tuition by November 15, 2022 could delay your ability to receive MD-6 course access, books, and other information for the start of the class.

Faculty Mentors

  • Each student is assigned to mentor who will be one of the Basic Science faculty involved in teaching-learning activities.
  • Monitor academic progress maintaining a learner-centered approach and providing specific learning guidance and proactive educational intervention
  • Students need to maintain a healthy average in NBME shelf exam to be eligible to take the MD6 Exit Exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, shelf exams are given to students online. Students must login to a Zoom link provided to them. Cameras should be turned on at all times. If a student is not visible the exam will be terminated immediately by the chief proctor. Students must adhere to examination protocols at all times.

The results will be shared by the academic advisor 1-3 days post-exam to your Xavier email.

The Kaplan course is live lectures. You will receive recordings of the live lectures through the Kaplan platform.

Yes, a Kaplan question bank will be provided to all students. This is not an additional charge.

Yes, the attendance requirement is 90%.

Yes, students have a choice for the final exam.

1 – Take the Kaplan final

  • Come to Aruba and take the Kaplan final on campus.
  • Passing score is 51.

2 – Take a CBSE as the final

  • Cam be taken at a Prometric testing center.
  • Passing score is 60.
  • If you score 70 or above, you do not have to take an additional CBSE exam before taking USMLE Step 1.
  • Additional CBSE fee

Grand OSCE

  • Regardless of the final exam chosen by the student, students must take the Grand OSCE exam.
  • This can be skipped if you have credits from your previous school.
  • This exam is offered virtually.

After students pass their final exam, either the Kaplan final or CBSE as their final, they will immediately begin their MD-6 Leave of Absence (LOA).

One year maximum is allowed for this period, and the LOA monthly fee begins after passing your final exam ($800/month).

The passing CBSE score is 70.

This score is subject to change. Students will be notified if it changes. 

Students have 3 changes or 1 full year to pass their CBSE, whichever comes first.

Please note: Your first CBSE comes free with the course. Any additional tests taken cost $750 per test.

Upon passing the CBSE, you will be permitted to register for USMLE Step 1.

Students must take and pass USMLE Step 1 within 90 days or retake the CBSE again.

If a student doesn’t pass their CBSE in 3 chances or within 1 full year (whichever comes first), they must re-enroll in the MD-6 semester or enroll into our Academic Support Program.
